Mission Statement

The Center For Self Prerservation Training

My name is Demi Barbito. I own and operate the Center For Self Preservation Training. My background is in Jeet Kune Do Concepts, The Filipino Martial Arts, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Tactical Firearms. The idea for starting the CSPT was to bring together all the areas of combat I’ve trained over the years into one place, to further develop those areas and then to simplify them for practical application. The CSPT functions as a clearing house for combat applications in the broadest sense. The focus is on developing the totality of combat options, not perfecting one area. We bring together form and function in an integrated manner. We conduct advanced law enforcement training and we work with private clients from all over the US and from around the world. Tactics and Training

The areas we train are as follows, with each element including all related elements:

Threat Recognition - Movement - Striking - Close Quarters/Clinch - Groundfighting - Impact/Bladed Weapons - Unarmed Weapon Defense - OC Spray - Tactical Firearms - Fight Psychology - Combat Athletics

I do not take credit for inventing combat or all the elements we train. We simply take truth in combat, as it becomes reveiled through training and apply it and integrate it into a total package of options. Although we utilize many unique methodoilogies we do not highlight them as such as to not diminish the whole. What makes the CSPT truly unique is the bringing together of all these elements into one place.

We strive to avoid common distractions which take away from the training. One distraction is giving too much importance to the instructor. Another is giving too much importance to the cultural or historical significance of any given art or element that we train. Another is giving or taking credit for the arts or elements that we train. There is nothing new under the sun. There are very few who can credit for anything and in many instances they choose not to.

The idea of Self Preservation Training is to not become the “knower” but to become effective at stopping violence.

There is also the Status Quo in martial arts to contend with.

The Status Quo - The state of things as they are at the moment. The current state of affairs.

We strive to break the status quo in the following areas:

  • Instructors are allowing people to believe that there is some type of martial magic in the world.
  • Students are still looking for some kind of martial magic.
  • Instructors are looking for disciples not students.
  • Students are star struck by thier instructors and show them morbid loyalty.
  • Instructors do not teach all they know, even to thier advanced students.
  • Instructors/schools look at students as resources, not people.
  • Instructors/schools are still teaching people how to fight instead of how to end violence.
  • Certification is placed over abilty and politics over performance.
  • Weapons, ground fighting, OC Spray and firearms are neglected .
  • Combat Athletics are neglected.
  • Students accept what they are told instead of evaluating what they are told.
  • Schools/Instructors do not evaluate themselves or their programs periodically to see where improvements can be made to the tactics or training.
  • Instructors don’t train with their students.
  • Students are still being trained to fight against an opponent of the same style.
  • Instructors and students do not spend time training against uncooperative opponents.
  • Instructors and students are still repeating the same material for years and years.
  • Group think is overwhelmingly alive and well in the martial arts community.
Death to the status quo...

Representation

No individual or entity may represent the CSPT. Any individual who has trained at the CSPT is free to change, integrate or adopt any material they trained into their own style, system or method. Truth is free and cannot be restrained. There is nothing unethical about teaching material you were taught at the CSPT, even if you’ve changed it to better suit specific needs (in your own opinion).

The CSPT only “verifies” the training of certified instructors, but does not vouch for them. This would be akin to creating a representitive. Also, it is not possible for us to know what any given individual has done since they were certified. If you want actual CSPT training you must train at the CSPT. Individuals who are certified simply show that they actually did come in and train, for any given period of time, and met the certification requirements at that time. We do not keep tabs on or stay current with all the individuals who have come in. That would just not be possible. You must check out each individual on your own and if the person great or not so great the CSPT cannot take credit for it either way.
