Demi
Barbito recently conducted training for the Department
of Homeland Security. DHS sent tactics instructors from
around the country for three days of defensive tactics
training at the CSPT. The agencies represented were:
*
US Customs and Border Protection Advanced Training Center
- Harpers Ferry, WV.
* San Diego Sector Border Patrol Defensive Tactics Unit
- San Diego, CA.
* Border Patrol Basic Academy -Artesia, NM.
* Customs and Border Protection Academy - Physical Techniques
Division - Glynco, GA.

The
training started with Counter Knife Training. This included
long, medium and close range unarmed tactics for responding
to a spontaneous knife attack. Also covered were tactics
for a spontaneious knife attack at close range with
a drawn firearm. The training also included Unarmed
Counter Assault Tactics. The UCAT is a “best options
- gross motor skill set” for reponding to an unarmed
attack. After two days of learning tactics and moving
through training methods the group did video taped scenario
based modules which took them from a spontaneous unarmed
attack into a spontaneous close range knife attack.
The training ended on the third day with a video debreifing
of the scenarios.
