arts practitioners view Self Defense, Self Protection
or Self Preservation as a series of "empty hand"
problems which they feel they will be able to solve within
the framework of "their" art, generally ignoring
the issues of larger/more skilled assailants, armed assailants
or firearms. Gun people have a tendancy to see things
as a series of shooting scenarios, always assuming that
they will be able to get the gun in their hand from it's
concealed carry holster or somehow have it at the ready
and then miraculously be able to "fight" with

Recently, a group of eight instructors from four different
national academy and field training sites within the
Department of Homeland Security trained with Demi Barbito.
Our agency was searching for material for our Edged
Weapon Defense program.
Demi and his training have heavily influenced our program.
After working with Demi, we changed from static striking
drills to very dynamic drills giving the officers practice
at footwork and greater target acquisition. He has added
to our control tactics with better leverage techniques
for takedowns that also blend into our edged weapon
counter tactics. His training stands up against progressive
resistance and gives confidence in the training. Although
Demi has tremendous knowledge and experience with multiple
martial arts disciplines and other combat systems, he
only gives you what works. I have no doubt that our
program is one of the best in the nation because of
working with Demi. I highly recommend Mr. Barbito as
a source of knowledge that is not biased by martial
art, sport, or fad.

Barbito has a broad view of what the average person
is capable of learning. A man or woman who knows nothing
about martial arts can be taught their very best
options in respective areas of combat (with supplemental
training methods) in a one or two day program. Advanced
or elite martial artists can benefit by updating their
tactics or reprioritizing their tactical approach. Demi
also evaluates your training for "option gaps",
identifying important tactical options that are being
left out. Men and women come in from all over the country
for these courses and return annually/semi annually
for further training.
Those in Ca. who are able to train with Demi on a regular
basis benefit by having Demi guide their training routines
and accelerate their development. All training is done
by private appointment. There are no group classes.

"I recently flew to California for a two day training
session with Demi at the CSPT and found that it exceeded
all my expectations. Demi's knowledge of every facet of
self-preservation training is extensive but, more importantly,
he has an innate ability to communicate this knowledge
to the student in the most concise and economical way
regardless of the student's current level or ability.
He can instantly spot where the student has a weakness
and can give him the help he needs in a way that the attributes
are greatly enhanced.
What is most impressive is Demi's constant testing of
and improving the methodology of his teaching to make
it relevant to modern day situations. He is not content
to simply regurgitate centuries old drills and patterns
which are no longer practical. Instead, his school is
in a constant state of evolution as he strives to give
the student the most innovative training methods. He is
truly taking martial arts into the 21st century.
I have trained in other martial arts styles and even with
other more well known JKD concepts instructors, but they
can't come close to approaching the magnitude of what
Demi offers. He is truly interested in giving the student
his best options for survival and I would heartily recommend
him to anyone who wants to survive today's brutal world."

"I received your videos about a week ago. Awesome
material! I have checked both of them out and I will be
incorporating this stuff into my training. "
"Just got the killer instinct videos in and watched
them. I have to say they are the best JKD tapes I have
bought to date. Very informative. They answered many questions
that I had unanswered (ex.training killer instinct, basic
knife and stick)."
"I just read your article in Black Belt magazine,
and would like to say that I thoroughly enjoyed it! You
painted a very clear and accurate picture of JKD and hopefully
it will do lots of good things for all practitioners of
the system, regardless of their choice."
"I have gone to your website and the information
that I received was amazing. It truly changed my perception
about martial arts as it relates to real world situations."
"As a frequent international business traveler, I
wanted to know how best to respond to various threat scenarios
without spending years studying martial arts. Other course
descriptions on civilian defense seemed to offer knowledge
and advice in a classroom setting. I wanted more. Demi
provides a natural flow between knowing what to do and
actually doing it. His teaching method was consistent
throughout: tell me what to do, show me what to do, then
make me do it etched the tactics into my memory in a way
classroom training alone could never accomplish."
